Recessed Drywall Luminaire
APPLICATION FEATURES
Specification grade, recessed flanged luminaire designed specifically for raquetball and similar sports. Fixture and lens surface retains a proper stiffness and strength so that when a ball hits the fixture it remains in play as though it had hit any other playing surface, which is critical in raquetball tournaments. For use in indoor courts. Suitable for precast concrete, drywall or plaster ceilings. Available with high reflectance (95%) VF-1 reflector.
CONSTRUCTION
Die formed and spot welded, heavy gauge cold rolled steel housing assembly. Spot-welded for rigidity and clean appearance. Frame is designed not to unhinge until all fasteners have been loosened in order to prevent damage to frame or fixture during lamp or ballast maintenance. Fasteners are self retaining. Lens is sealed to the frame.
MOUNTING
Mounting holes are provided. Holes are large enough to accomodate premounted lugs. Slip washers may be used to speed installation. Fixtures are to be mounted under tension. Optional mounting yokes with premounted lugs are available. Frame and flanges are designed to mount flush with each other and the ceiling surface. Fasteners are countersunk and the hinges are recessed and so are not exposed. The flange is designed to be under tension with the ceiling surface once luminaire is correctly mounted, in order to prevent vibration and maintain proper bounce to the ball.
FINISH
Powder painted white. housing. High reflectivity coated, reflecting surfaces for improved efficiency.
OPTICS
Optional VF-1 reflectors are made of specular low irridescence, anodized aluminum with a reflectivity of 94% or better. Visimpact lens is made by a proprietary process where an acrylic eggcrate louver is sandwiched between and then laminated to two high impact clear acrylic sheets of plastic. This lens has similar stiffness to the playing surface, yet resists high impact. Once mounted into the frame which in turn is kept under tension against a recessed flange; balls bouncing against this lens will cause any ball to bounce with a minimum deflection, chatter or reduction of speed and in a similar manner to the adjoining playing surface. This lens provides a minimum of glare (45 degree cut-off angle). It is easy to clean as the louver is protected from dust penetration.
ELECTRICAL
All electrical components are CSA or UL approved. Lamp holders provided ensure positive lamp retention. Lamp holders with rotary locks are available. Standard ballasts are electro-magnetic, energy saving where required. The standard voltage is 120V, 60 Hz, or as specified. Units suitable for multi-voltages and suitable for 50-60 Hz are also available. See Product Selection for optional ballasts. Sufficient knockouts are provided on the back and ends for connections and through wiring.
